OUR PROCESS
Discovery Phase
We begin any new project with a thorough information download from our client. We review and respond to any existing research, current communications, and learn about competitors. We assess your visual assets like photography and video to determine future needs. Goals are discussed and criteria established to measure success. Typically, we will interview key decision makers at this time and conduct a series of focus groups with primary target audiences and constituents.
Timeframe: 1 - 3 days |
Ideation
At this stage we integrate information with vision. First, we eliminate the old assumptions that impede progress then we actively brainstorm to see if we can illuminate the big idea, that one story, or that one approach that can begin to shift things in a bold new direction.
Timeframe: 1 day |
Planning
This phase will allow the team to examine options for media mix, budgets and schedules. The deliverable will be a detailed project scope description, finalized budget, and schedule for the project/campaign.
Timeframe: 1 week |
Concept Development
A client will have at least 2 - 3 concepts to respond to initially-focusing on core messages, sample copy, and artwork style. After receiving a response from the client we will return with a second round of concepts that focus more specifically on the design direction, photography and/or illustration style, typography, and color palette.
Timeframe: 1 - 2 weeks for two rounds of concepts
Source Material Generation (content, photography, video, etc.)
Final content developed begins with a rough draft highlighting the major messages to be used consistently throughout a campaign. These messages are further refined as they populate individual communications. Photography and video (when needed) are produced very efficiently during a 1 - 3 day shoot-sometimes with two crews very aggressively making the most of time and budget.
Timeframe: 2 weeks for initial content development. 1 - 3 days for photo and/or video shoots.
Design, production and/or programming
This part of the process is the most involved as we bring together all the elements and often involve a wider circle of individuals to review. Initially, we deliver options for the cover and an interior spread design. These comps will be modified and tweaked up to three times before requiring design and copy approval from the client. The approved design is then applied to produce a complete mock-up for final approval. During this phase we also provide time for fact checking, proofreading, photo identification, and Website testing.
Timeframe: 4 - 6 weeks for medium - large print collateral and Website projects.
Change Procedures
The most common reason for missing deadlines or overextending budgets is due to changing the scope or direction of a project once copy and design have already been approved. Our process accommodates one very thorough round of copy changes and design tweaks to a full mock-up, plus two small rounds of copy corrections. Any changes beyond the project's original scope will result in additional charges (an estimate will be provided first) and new deadlines.
